Recent grants awarded to Haxtun Schools

BEST (Building Excellent Schools Today ) granted us $2.3 million in a cash grant which will provide the bulk of the money for re-roofing the primary and upper elementary wings and the high school. It will also pay for a new HVAC system in the high school and controls to run the high school and gym, as well as hook the new system to the elementary/middle school system. From the best grant, we will also be getting new, more efficient lighting for the high school, as well as some other weatherproofing to increase energy efficiency in the building. The Ag shop will get new roofing, HVAC system including improved air quality, lighting, new doors and some other weather-proofing and energy-efficiency measures. We will borrow the approximately $800,000 cash match for the BEST, and it will be paid back through energy savings as part of our Energy Performance Contract.

DOLA grant is $200,000 and will go for HVAC and roofing of the gymnasium. The district will come up with money for bleachers and a refinishing the floor, both of which will be completed next summer if things all proceed as planned.

The playground is being paid for through the sale of the district-owned house, a grant from the Phillips County Recreation District, Heginbotham, various grants written by Paige Thompson for pre-school specific potionss, and butter braid sales.
